The units September training event, was a chance for the unit to be involved in a large scale activity. Not exactly a Jamboree, but the County Beaver and Cub Funday at Braid wood. The Unit arrived Friday evening, setup camp and started to build an assault course for the Fun day. Saturday was an early start to a very busy day, after a Quick breakfast the unit set about finishing the assault course and setting up the Stocks, string trail and water rockets bases that they were running ready for the 700 Cubs and Beavers to arrive. The day was spent running the units bases as well as providing assistance to pretty much every base on site (crafts, cooking, archery, absieling, face painting, bouncy castles etc) this proved to be hard work, but great fun and appreciated by all the participants. After the Fun day had finished, the unit had a chance to relax and have some fun its self, by testing out the bouncy castle and bouncy slide for themselves, with a lot of steam being let off! The Patrols next challenge was to cook there evening meal of Swedish Meatballs, followed by Chocolate Fondue. Sunday was a little quiter day, but equally busy as the unit got on with some of more usuall training and activites. Geocashing and Archery were the core activities, but they also all learned how to hand wash clothes. This is a vital skill they will need while they are in Sweden with no Mum to wash there clothes and no washing machine. |
